What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a clinical intervention that uses the power of music to support emotional, physical, and social wellbeing. Delivered by HCPC-registered music therapists, it helps people of all ages and abilities express themselves, build connections, and enhance quality of life. Through live musical interaction, often improvised using instruments or voice, clients are supported to explore their emotions, communicate, and connect with others in meaningful ways.

Central to music therapy is the therapeutic relationship that develops through live musical interaction and play between therapist and client. Sessions may take place individually or in groups, and all of the music created is improvised, allowing for freedom, authenticity, and personal expression.

Who We Are

Inner Chord Music Therapy was founded by Amelia Caesar-Homden, an HCPC-registered Music Therapist with a background in songwriting and a deep belief in the power of music to help people connect, express themselves, and navigate the challenges life may bring. After completing a BA (Hons) in Songwriting at the University of Sussex in 2018 and spending time in the music industry, Amelia was drawn to music therapy, a path that brought together her love of creativity and her interest in supporting others’ wellbeing. Amelia trained through the MA Music Therapy programme at The University of the West of England and graduated in 2024.

Amelia completed her final music therapy training placement in Rwanda as a collaboration between UWE Bristol, Musicians Without Borders and Rwanda Youth Music. During her time in Rwanda, Amelia developed a strong passion for making music therapy accessible to everyone, especially those who may find it difficult to express themselves with words. Amelia’s work is guided by empathy, creativity, and sensitivity, offering a space where clients can feel heard, supported, and free to explore through sound.

Amelia believes that music therapy isn’t just for musicians; it’s for anyone who wishes to connect, express, or find comfort through music. Through Inner Chord, she helps people discover their own voice and strengthen their connection to themselves and others, one note at a time.
